"We all should share our blessings... I believe that it is better to give than to receive," declares Corry Minthorn, now of Poultney, Vermont. In 1987, after years of donating to CWS and organizing the Ramsey Area, New Jersey, CROP WALK, she decided to take yet another step to help others. After her husband's death, she used funds from the sale of their condominium in New Jersey to create a charitable gift annuity to support Church World Service - becoming one of CWS's first charitable gift annuitants.
Catherine von Schon, of Stony Brook, New York, took a similar step in 1987, when she established a two-life charitable gift annuity for herself and her father. Before his death at the age of 92, Catherine's father had asked her to take charge of his investments. The two-life annuity benefited them both by providing them with payments for life, while ultimately contributing to the work of Church World Service.
Planning a future with hope for the world. It makes sense to Catherine von Schon and Corry Minthorn. As Corry says, "I feel that CWS does great work with partners around the world. By giving through CWS, I am sure that most of my contribution really gets to the people who need help."
Corry and Catherine are just two of the many people who have remembered Church World Service through planned giving. With baby boomers beginning to see retirement in the not-too-distant future and an emerging group of young entrepreneurs acquiring wealth, many people are expressing new interest in planned giving and estate planning. For these people, charitable planned giving provides an outlet to help support their values and ideas, while also ensuring a financially stable future for themselves.
Planned giving vehicles - wills, bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder unitrusts, pooled income funds, and gifts of stock and mutual funds - can provide you and your family with financial security and tax advantages, while at the same time providing a future with hope for children and families in need around the corner and around the world.
Church World Service's planned giving staff stands ready to help you plan for your future. For more information, please email Ron Blaum or call 1-800-297-1516.
